Ben Mason

Since 2018, I’ve worked to provide instruments and repairs to musicians of all levels across Kentucky. Raised in northern Virginia, I began cello lessons at the age of 8 and later returned to Lexington and graduated from Lafayette High School. I played cello through high school, taking private lessons and participating in CKYO.

I graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2013 with a B.A. in Integrated Strategic Communications and Art Studio. While in school, I also competed and traveled the country as a sprinter for UK Track & Field.

After graduation, I enrolled at the Violin Making School of America and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2014. I studied under Aubrey Alexander and learned the foundational skills that go into violin making.

Returning to Lexington in 2018, I put my training to use offering handmade violins, violas and cellos. I’ve since developed many great working relationships with students and teachers of all levels across the state.

I’m a member of the Violin Society of America and compete in their violin making competition held every other year. I most recently attended the A.L.I. Restoration workshop, learning from some of the best in bow and instrument restoration.

I live in Lexington, KY near Southland Drive with my wife, Lindsey, our Bernese Mountain dog, Bear. Outside of the shop, I love my early morning runs, UK basketball, and enjoying our pool.
